God Told Me This
Good day to you!
Well, in my quest for a more organized and stress-free 2008, I was seriously praying for guidance about what to do with my business and life in general.
And do you know what God said?
Okay, you’re going to think I’m kidding - would the Holy One of Israel actually say this? But I’m totally serious.
Clear as a bell, I hear in my spirit, “Wash your dishes every night before going to bed.”
Now, I honestly expected something a little more spiritual sounding, you know? Fast one day a week, get up at 3:00 AM and intercede for nations, give all you have to the poor… something along those lines.
But nope. When I wanted to know what God wanted for 2008 in my life, He said, “Wash the dishes.”
My grandma always said there were two things she couldn’t stand. An unmade bed and a sink full of dishes. I didn’t inherit those pet-peeves.
But I do have this tendency to get totally overwhelmed and paralyzed when there’s too much to do. I just shut down.
And I realized, as I started washing the dishes at night, how awesome I was feeling in the mornings as a result of seeing a clean sink. Man, it’s amazing what a grimy two foot stack of plates and bowls can do to the psyche! That mess contributed to my overwhelmed feelings and paralysis.
Isn’t God amazing? I mean, He knows smack dab what my issues are and how to alleviate stress in my life.
Who knows? Maybe next year I’ll actually start folding laundry.
Want to share what He’s telling you for 2008?
Lisa

As crazy as it sounds, this makes sense to me! I have been praying about a solution to an enormous challenge for the past two or three years. I pray daily that God will open my eyes and help me see the solution, but then I think I’m moving so fast to try to accomplish all I need to do, that even if He were putting the answer right in front of my face I wouldn’t see it. Over the past month I’ve been spending lots of time with my mother. I held her hand and comforted her and watched her die. During that process, I felt the Lord’s assurance that THIS was what I needed to be doing. Forget the work and all the rushing around. Just BE THERE and help my mother make the transition from this life to the next. I know Mom was suffering, but just holding her hand comforted her more than the morphine. Now that she’s gone, guess what I’m doing? CLEANING! God’s house is a house of order. He not only wants our bodies and minds to be uncluttered, but our homes, too. So, Lisa, it makes perfect sense to me that God would tell you to wash your dishes.
Lisa, you are too funny!
What is God telling me about 2008?
Cut back. Cut back on the time you spend doing unnecessary things that take precious time away from the important things.
Cut back on spending money you don’t really have to buy things you don’t really need.
Cut back on your whining and be truly thankful for what you have.
Cut back on your “can’t-say-no” commitments and spend more time with Me.
So I’m cutting back - a lot.
Say, Lisa, I have a question for you since you have a direct line to Him about housework. Do you think your message about the dishes means I can’t cut back on that? :~)
I can’t wait to read more here on your blog - this one is going to be great! But then, so are you.
